WORK REHABILITATION

STAR Physical Therapy has a strong track record working with physicians and nurse case managers to get employees back to work.

Our physical therapists are experts at taking care of acute injuries while building on functional activities throughout the rehab process to reach specific return-to-work goals without limitation.

These goals always incorporate:

  • tolerance to all work-related tasks
  • performing complex tasks under various work-related conditions
  • resilience with repetitive lifting, carrying, reaching, pulling, pushing, etc.
  • pain-free weight manipulation to meet lifting, pushing, and pulling requirements for safe return-to-work
  • if appropriate, transitioning into a work conditioning program to insure the worker is capable of the job demands, while minimizing the risk of re-injury

WORK CONDITIONING/HARDENING

The main goal of Physical Therapy is to return the worker back to full duty as quickly and safely as possible.  We’ve found with the limits of the acute Worker’s Comp model means that some people may get sent back to work when they feel good, but may not be ready for a full work day.  That’s why we created the Triple3 Work Conditioning program to minimize the risk of re-injury and ensures a safe and sustained return-to-work.

Our Triple3 Work Conditioning Program is designed to:

  • Restore the injured employee’s physical capacity and function for return-to-work
  • Emphasize prevention of future injury
  • Teach correct body mechanics with safe movement patterns at any weight requirement

Workers who complete our program will restore the motivation and confidence needed to return to work for the long-run.

About the Triple 3 Work Conditioning Program

The Triple 3 Work Conditioning Program is performed 3x per week up to 3 hours per day over a 3-week period. There are opportunities to extend the program if deemed appropriate.

  • strength and conditioning to meet specific requirements
  • cardiovascular endurance to decrease early fatigue
  • job-specific exertion tolerance to ensure readiness for return-to-work

… using customized workout circuits that simulate work demands.

POST-OFFER EMPLOYMENT TESTING

Post offer testing employs clinical measurements of flexibility, strength, and endurance to match a potential employee’s suitability for a particular job, guided by the Job Demands Analysis (JDA).

  • Identifies potential deficits that might predispose the worker to an injury
  • Provides a baseline of pre-injury status
  • Reduces lost time, medical and indemnity expense, and worker pain and disability

FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVALUATIONS (FCE)

An FCE is a 2 to 4 hour evaluation that tests strength, lifting capabilities, endurance, reliability, and repeatability through a wide range of tasks.  Typically, an injured worker who has gone through our acute rehab and Triple 3 Work Conditioning is ready to return to work and feels confident due to this training. Sometimes a company or provider may want an FCE to document specific functional levels or for job reassignment if full recovery has not been possible. Whatever the reason, and FCE can be an appropriate tool in managing return-to-work.

ERGONOMIC ANALYSIS

At its core, ergonomics is the practice of adapting a job to the person, so work can be performed without strain or injury.  We can:

  • Visit your worksite to analyze your job station and work demands to make recommendations for modifications, and
  • Teach correct body mechanics with safe movement patterns at any weight requirement

Yes. The choice of where you receive therapy is always yours. While the majority of our patients come to us by physician referral/recommendation, many clients request to see us due to our strong clinical reputation in the community.

We operate in a direct access state where, if your insurance plan authorizes self-referral to physical therapy, a physician referral is not necessary for you to be seen by a licensed therapist. Please check with your insurance though as many health insurance plans require a physicians referral for therapy to be covered. We also offer treatments, services and/or products that do NOT require a referral and are available on a self-pay basis.

We participate in the majority of major health insurance plans including Medicare and Worker’s Compensation. Please contact us prior to your first visit to see if we participate with your specific health plan.

As a service to our patients, we will gladly file claims with your insurance company on your behalf. In order to appropriately submit these claims, we will need to obtain a copy of your insurance identification card to ensure that we have the necessary information.

Your therapist will conduct an evaluation of your condition lasting between 60-90 minutes. The evaluation is necessary to create a program designed specifically to address your needs for a maximum recovery.

– Referral slip from your medical doctor
– Your medical insurance card
– Your ID
– If you are getting therapy as a result of a worker’s compensation claim or an automobile accident, you will also need to bring your claim information, including claim number.

Please arrive 15 minutes early on your first visit to fill out any necessary paperwork.

We recommend comfortable clothing such as sweatpants or shorts, a T-shirt or tank-top and sneakers.

Each visit will last 60 – 90 minutes on average. Times vary due to the treatment and exercises being performed.

The regularity of your visits will be determined after your initial evaluation, but most patients have 3 visits each week scheduled.
